Craniofacial Fellowship & NAM Therapy
GSF pioneered the first Global Pediatric Craniofacial Dental Fellowship in an outreach setting. The fellowship takes place at a renowned US medical center for nine months. The second part of the fellowship is completed at Hospital de Niños León Becerra for three months. The fellowship started in 2011 and will continue training one fellow per year in addition to local Ecuadorian dentists.
Nasoalveolar Molding Therapy (NAM) is a pre-surgical treatment designed to improve surgical outcomes in babies. The therapy is completed in approximately 3 months and the children are screened by the GSF team prior to surgery. On the mission to Ecuador this year, GSF was able to complete 5 surgeries on children who had received the NAM treatment and are recruiting patients throughout the year to receive the treatment and surgery on future missions.
