Mission: Trujillo Peru

Trujillo is the most important economic center of northern Peru, but it is a city that is extremely underserved medically. A tremendous amount of patients require care due to a lack of access to surgical care in the northern mountain regions of Peru.

EsSalud is the largest healthcare provider in Peru with over 400 facilities. The Global Smile Foundation has partnered with EsSalud and Rotary Club of Trujillo to provide needed cleft care to underserved patients at the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray.

Most recent mission (May 28- June 6, 2010)

  • 62 patients screened for surgical and dental procedures
  • 42 surgical procedures performed:
  • 15 primary cleft lip procedures
  • 11 primary cleft palate procedures
  • 10 lip/nose revisions
  • 6 alveolar cleft repairs
  • 48 patients received dental services, including restorations, fluoride treatments, and sealants
