Olofermes an eight year old active boy, is the youngest of eight. He was born at home in the Provincia Pataz Anexo Husca, deep in the the secluded mountains of Peru. At the time of his birth, all were shocked by Olofermes' "malformation", as none of the families previous seven childern had anything of this nature.
Recently the family was informed by Olofermes' teacher, who had a friend in Trujillo, that the Global Smile Foundation was coming and may be able to help their son. Although neither the family nor Olofermes himself saw his deformity as a handicap, they decided to go on an expedition to Trujillo.
Home was far from the urban life of Trujillo. The trek involved a full days walk through the mountains of Peru followed by two days of bus rides.
Arriving just in time for screening day, Olofermes was chosen as a candidate. After the surgery, dad turned to me and said, "the trip was worth it and I would do it ten more times to see him smiling the way he is right now."
