Romeo

Romeo

Age: 1 year, 4 months
Guayaquil, Ecuador

Angela immediately knew during her pregnancy that there was a higher chance Romeo would be born with a cleft lip because his father was born with one. At 3 months, an ultrasound confirmed that he had a cleft, that led Romeo’s father to abandon his family. This was very hard for Angela, but fortunately she had very strong family support.

Angela developed preeclampsia that greatly increased the chances that she and Romeo could die during delivery. However, through the adversity, they both lived and now Romeo is his mother’s pride and joy.

Romeo could have had the surgery close to home, but instead, Angela chose to travel 5 hours to Hospital Leon Becerra to have his operations performed by GSF.

After several months of NAM therapy by the volunteer team of GSF experts, Romeo was finally ready to undergo his first surgery. After his first operation in 2013, Angela was full of joy after seeing Romeo’s face. He subsequently underwent cleft palate repair in 2014.

Angela is so grateful for the improvement in Romeo’s life and for the work that GSF teams perform throughout the world. She is ecstatic that Romeo will be able to live a normal life and she relishes in the love the GSF team has for them.
