Trujillo is the most important economic center of northern Peru, but it is a city that is extremely underserved medically. A tremendous amount of patients require care due to a lack of access to surgical care in the northern mountain regions of Peru.
The Global Smile Foundation has partnered with EsSalud, Peru’s largest healthcare provider and Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego (UPAO) to provide much-needed cleft care to underserved patients at the Centro Medico Especializado Casa Grande.
(From GSF’s most recent mission — June 26 – July 5, 2015)
This mission was GSF’s 8th trip to Trujillo since 2008, and the 12th consecutive year our medical staff has been serving the people of Peru. This year, GSF had the privilege of working out of the brand new EsSalud run Hospital Virgin de la Puerta. GSF would like to thank its partners, EsSalud and UPAO and our generous mission sponsors, Dr. Stephen Harris and The Hochhauser Foundation. EsSalud staff prescreened nearly 40 patients for surgery prior to the full screening at UPAO completed by GSF on July 28, 2015.
