We are excited to share this update from Matias and his family. You may remember their story from 2019, when Matias and his Mom came to Guayaquil, Ecuador to meet our volunteers.
Matias had a severe cleft lip and palate that required complex surgery, but he was underweight. Like many babies with cleft, he couldn’t feed properly and would need special formula to grow and thrive. GSF and GSF-Ecuador teams were able to raise enough money to provide the formula for Matias so that he could be ready for surgery 6 months later. His new photo (right) 2 years later shows his healthy smile and adorable personality — all a testament to how comprehensive cleft care saves lives!
