The mission of Global Smile Foundation (GSF) has always included a commitment to enhancing the quality of cleft care through education. Our simulation-based workshops, fellowship training, educational series at all mission sites and our involvement with national and international cleft forums are all parts of this commitment to share our collective experience in cleft care over the past 32 years along with many other educators in the field. In June, Dr. Usama Hamdan, President & Co-Founder of Global Smile Foundation, presented at the European Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ECPCA) Congress in the Netherlands (photo). This multi-disciplinary European congress takes place once every four years and draws a global audience of more than 750 healthcare professionals. In addition to co-chairing the section on Cleft Care in Developing Countries, Dr. Hamdan discussed the role of simulation-based training in enhancing empowerment and sustainability of cleft providers worldwide, including the role of augmented reality as a teaching tool.
