Jose Luis is an energetic young boy who has grown up with the Global Smile Foundation (GSF) team in El Salvador. He was only 4 months old when we first met him in 2010 at the Benjamin Bloom Hospital in the country’s capital, San Salvador.
During that year’s mission, Jose Luis underwent a cleft lip surgery and he returned the following year for a cleft palate surgery. Since that time, he has had three other surgical procedures and also received dental care and speech therapy.
GSF’s ability to provide integrated care throughout a patient’s childhood leads to the best outcomes and Jose Luis’s happy and healthy smile is a testament to that care. Many of our volunteers come back to the same location with us every year and seeing Jose Luis and his family is one of the highlights of the trip every year for the El Salvador team!
