Othman, the youngest of six children, was born in Lebanon in 2022 after his family fled the violence and instability in Syria. His arrival brought joy, but also unexpected challenges. Othman was born with a cleft lip and palate, a condition his parents, Nader and Laila, knew nothing about. They were overwhelmed and unsure how to care for their newborn.

Feeding Othman became their first hurdle. With no guidance or resources, they had to teach themselves how to nourish their baby. Beyond the practical struggles, they also faced emotional ones. Fearful of judgment, prying questions, and discrimination, they rarely left their home. When they did, they often covered Othman’s face to shield him from stares.

One day, while sharing his worries about Othman with a friend, Nader’s life took a hopeful turn. His friend, who happened to be the father of a former Global Smile Foundation (GSF) patient, shared his own experience. He described how GSF had transformed his child’s life and even showed Nader before-and-after photos. For the first time, Nader felt relief—there was a team that could help his son.

Filled with hope, Nader reached out to GSF. The family had no prior experience with the organization, but they were welcomed with compassion and expertise. Othman’s surgery was a life-changing moment for the family.

Today, Othman’s bright, contagious smile is a testament to the incredible care he received. His siblings adore him, ensuring he is always surrounded by love and laughter. His parents are grateful to GSF and everyone who made their son’s transformation possible.

Reflecting on their journey, Nader and Laila are overjoyed to take Othman out without fear or hesitation. Their family’s resilience, the support of GSF, and the kindness of others have given Othman a future full of possibilities—and a smile that lights up every room he enters.
